Re "White House sought to curb voter turnout" (April 19)
The Bush administration people are shocked, shocked, they'll tell you, that they should be accused of curbing voting turnout, when it seems all the White House was trying to do is have the fired U.S. attorneys go after Democrats only for the possibility of voter fraud.
Just because in the 2000 Florida election, Republican Secretary of State Katherine Harris purged more than 90,000 black Democratic voters, GOP Washington outsiders stormed the vote counting, stopping the count, with 3,500 faulty butterfly ballots mistakenly going to Reform Party nominee Pat Buchanan, faulty GOP privatized voting machines and an unprecedented U.S. Supreme Court stopping the vote count, giving the election to George W. Bush, that's no reason to suspect Republicans of curbing voter turnout. After all, Bush won by a whopping 537 votes.
